Mild soap and water are all that is required for daily cleaning. Windex also works well for this.
Promptly wipe up liquids to prevent spotting and glass rings.
Stainless Steel Magic cleaner and polish (available at most supermarkets) is recommended for removing water spots, streaks, and fingerprints.
Pewter is a soft metal – to preserve your countertops, we recommend the use of trivets for very hot pots and cutting boards for chopping.
Avoid the use of harsh or abrasive cleaners, such as bleach, as they may damage pewter’s soft surface.
Maintenance:
Our metal products are made of raw, uncoated metals; we do not apply any coating or lacquering. The care instructions vary depending on the polish style:
Matte Finish:
Normal – Minor scratches and mineral streaking can be brushed out using a household 3M Scotch-Brite pad.
Extreme Cases – Deep scratches may be sanded out using sandpaper grades up to 220 and buffed. Brush the countertop in a circular pattern to recreate its original finish. This will leave a matte, unpatinated finish. The normal patina will return over time.
Mirror-Polish Finish:
Normal – General cleaning may be done using any metal polish.
Extreme Cases – Pewter may be treated with an automotive compound and a machine-polishing pad.
Patinated Finish:
Sanding or buffing will remove scratches, but will also remove the patina. The patina will eventually return and blend over time, creating its own, unique pattern of use. Please also avoid using cleaners with acidic chemicals or fluids such as lemon, lime, or orange, which can permanently damage the quality and color of the patina.
The finish itself is not under warranty after installation. Brooks Custom does not guarantee its patinated pewter to match any other manufacturers’ patinated pewter.
Warranty for Pewter Countertops:
All Brooks Custom products come with a Full One Year Warranty.
Brooks Custom will repair or replace, at their option, any product determined to be faulty due to manufacturing defects.
Products not installed by Brooks Custom must be returned to the Brooks Custom showroom.
Incidental work or adjacent materials are not included in warranty coverage. This is standard in most of the home-improvement industry.
This warranty is not transferable and applies to the original purchaser only.
Reporting Service Problems:
Please feel free to contact or call us for technical or service advice before tackling significant problems with your countertop.
If you need to report a problem or need service advice, please follow this procedure to help us understand the nature of your problem:
Please provide photos to illustrate the nature and size of your problem.
First, place a quarter next to each problem area as a scale reference.
Next, take a wide-angle photo that shows the entire countertop.
Then, take a close-up photo of each problem area (showing the quarter in each close-up).
Email photos to service@brookscustom.com. After the photos are received, our Service Department will reply back with resolution options.
