Edge grain countertops come standard with a sealed and oiled finish. This finish permeates the countertop. It does not leave a hard seal on the top, allowing for direct food prep. Edge grain countertops and butcher blocks will need to be re-oiled periodically. This maintains the moisture and prevents cracking and checking due to dryness.
